Bwala: Peter Obi Has Stepped Down for Atiku, Now Competing with Amaechi for VP Slot

Daniel Bwala, a spokesperson for President Bola Tinubu, has claimed that former presidential candidate Peter Obi has effectively abandoned his 2027 ambition in favor of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.

Speaking during an interview on Politics Today, a Channels Television programme, Bwala alleged that Obi has been relegated to a supporting role within the newly formed coalition under the African Democratic Congress (ADC), where he is now reportedly vying for the vice-presidential ticket alongside former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi.

According to Bwala, Obi is being considered for the position of Director-General of the ADC’s presidential campaign. He further claimed that the understanding within the coalition is for Atiku to serve a single term if elected, after which Obi would be backed to contest for the presidency.

“Peter Obi now is a non-issue. He’s a non-starter. He has already conceded his presidential ambition to Alhaji Atiku Abubakar,” Bwala said. “Now he’s playing second fiddle, battling Rotimi Amaechi for the vice-presidential slot. From what we hear, they’ve convinced him to be Director-General of the campaign with promises of future support.”

The ADC coalition has been making headlines in recent weeks as political heavyweights realign ahead of the 2027 general election.
