MRS Filling Station, a key retail partner of Dangote Refinery, has reduced the pump price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) to N905 per litre, down from N945, in a bid to stay competitive with the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) and other major downstream players.
The revised pricing, which came into effect on Sunday, July 6, 2025, is already being implemented at MRS outlets in Kubwa and along the Lugbe Expressway in Abuja, according to findings by DAILY POST. This follows an official announcement by MRS on its X (formerly Twitter) account on Saturday, confirming the nationwide price adjustment.
The move comes just days after Dangote Refinery lowered its ex-depot price from N880 to N840 per litre, setting off a wave of price realignments across the sector. In response, MRS revised its retail pricing structure across the country:
Lagos: N885 per litre
South-West: N895 per litre
South-East: N915 per litre
Meanwhile, NNPCL also joined the price race by cutting its Abuja pump price to N910 per litre, down from N945.
These changes offer some relief to consumers in major cities, especially in Lagos and Abuja, where petrol is now being sold between N885 and N910 per litre at MRS and NNPCL stations. However, as of Monday night, many independent marketers in Abuja were still selling PMS at between N940 and N945, signaling that broader market adjustment is still underway.
The ongoing price cuts mark a significant moment in Nigeria’s deregulated petroleum market, as downstream companies intensify efforts to win over customers with more competitive pricing.
