Former Senate President Bukola Saraki has declared that there is “no victor and no vanquished” following the successful conclusion of the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) 100th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting.
In a statement released after the high-stakes gathering held on Thursday, Saraki emphasized that the true winners of the meeting were the PDP, Nigeria’s democracy, and the millions of party supporters across the country.
Despite an unexpected disruption by operatives of the Nigeria Police Force at the party’s National Secretariat in Abuja, the NEC meeting went ahead as scheduled—an outcome Saraki described as a defining moment for the party.
“It was a symbolic gathering,” he said. “The meeting could have either been the breaking point, going by events of the last 48 hours, or the junction to cross the Rubicon and march forward into greater heights. Our esteemed leaders chose the latter.”
Saraki praised party stakeholders for choosing unity and reconciliation over division, noting that members resolved to put aside past differences and rebuild internal trust for the greater good of the party and the nation.
“Today, there was no victor and no vanquished. The winner today is the PDP. Another winner is Nigeria’s democracy because, without a vibrant opposition, democracy dies,” he said.
According to the former Senate President, the meeting was particularly significant because it sent a strong signal to Nigerians that the PDP remains the most viable alternative for credible leadership.
“We all agreed on the need for unity… The spirit of give and take dominated our frank discussions,” he added.
The NEC meeting marks a critical step in the PDP’s ongoing efforts to reposition itself ahead of the 2027 general elections, following months of internal wrangling and leadership challenges.
