Oyintiloye Warns Against 2027 Distractions, Urges Support for Tinubu’s Governance

OSOGBO, Nigeria — A prominent chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, has cautioned politicians against dragging President Bola Ahmed Tinubu into premature conversations about the 2027 presidential election, urging instead for undivided focus on governance and national development.

Speaking with journalists in Osogbo on Sunday, Oyintiloye, a former member of the defunct APC Presidential Campaign Council (PCC), described the rising political noise around the next election cycle as a major distraction to the President’s efforts in tackling Nigeria’s current socio-economic challenges.

“It is worrisome that while the President is focused on addressing urgent national issues, some politicians are already positioning themselves for 2027,” he said. “This is barely two years into the current administration, yet the noise from political opportunists is becoming nauseating.”

Oyintiloye condemned what he termed “premature jostling for positions,” saying it has the potential to derail the administration’s momentum and shift focus away from critical priorities like economic recovery, national security, and infrastructural development.

“Some individuals are already angling to become Vice President, rather than allowing the President to focus on his mandate,” he noted. “These distractions are not only unnecessary but capable of slowing down progress at a time when unity and commitment are needed the most.”

He emphasized that President Tinubu inherited a deeply troubled economy in 2023, marked by rising debt, insecurity, a volatile naira, and the burden of a costly fuel subsidy. According to him, the President has spent the past two years implementing reforms aimed at stabilizing the nation and rebuilding public trust.

“What the President needs now is our collective support, prayers, and solidarity — not an early power struggle,” Oyintiloye stressed. “Through his technocratic expertise, President Tinubu has rekindled hope where many had lost faith. Let’s allow him to work.”

He called on political stakeholders to shelve personal ambitions for now and focus on helping the government deliver on its promises to Nigerians, warning that distractions over 2027 and even 2031 are “absurd and uncalled for.”

Oyintiloye’s comments come amid growing political realignments and speculations about potential presidential contenders ahead of the next general elections.
