2027: Peter Obi Will Humiliate Tinubu in South-East, Parts of South-South — Momodu

A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Dele Momodu, has predicted that the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, will defeat President Bola Tinubu in the South-East and parts of the South-South in the 2027 general election.

Momodu made the prediction on Wednesday during an interview on Arise Television’s Prime Time, where he discussed the political challenges confronting Tinubu ahead of the next presidential election.

According to the ADC chieftain, Obi’s expected performance in the two regions could pose a significant challenge to Tinubu’s re-election bid.

“Peter Obi will humiliate Tinubu and all his supporters in the South-East and some parts of the South-South, and that’s dangerous for Tinubu,” Momodu said.

He argued that Tinubu would need strong support across the three geopolitical zones in southern Nigeria to secure victory, adding that losing ground in some of the regions could complicate the President’s electoral calculations.

Momodu also suggested that Tinubu would face a difficult contest in the North, where he enjoyed the support of former President Muhammadu Buhari during the 2023 presidential election.

He said Buhari’s departure from office had changed the political landscape, noting that the former president had subsequently been blamed for some of the country’s challenges.

The publisher further argued that economic hardship was affecting Nigerians across the country, irrespective of their ethnic or regional backgrounds.

According to him, the Yoruba people are experiencing the same difficulties as residents of the North-West, North-East, North-Central, South-East and South-South.

Momodu also alleged that Tinubu’s political interests were more closely aligned with Lagos than with the broader Yoruba population, suggesting that the administration’s performance could affect its support among voters in the South-West.

The 2027 presidential election is expected to feature competition among major political parties as they seek to consolidate regional support and win over voters ahead of the polls.
