The South-South chairmen of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) have passed a vote of no confidence in the party’s presidential candidate, Seyi Makinde, over his alleged handling of the party’s campaign ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The six state chairmen announced their decision in a joint statement on Wednesday, accusing Makinde of sidelining established party structures and appointing campaign coordinators who are allegedly not members of the party.
The chairmen expressed concern over what they described as inadequate recognition, consultation and engagement with the party’s existing leadership in the organisation of the presidential campaign.
The statement was signed by Dagodog Whyte of Rivers State, Peace Osarama of Bayelsa State, Utuku Abangaye Edet of Akwa Ibom State, Ugoigwe Onyeka Ogechukwu of Edo State, Prince Henry Ese of Delta State and Ntami Nkanu Esage of Cross River State.
The party officials also accused Makinde of dishonesty, mismanagement of funds and a lack of effective leadership.
“We have realised that our Presidential candidate, Seyi Makinde lacks substance, the political will and focus to lead us right as a Presidential candidate,” the statement read.
They alleged that Makinde had failed to work with the party’s existing structures across the country, choosing instead to appoint campaign coordinators from outside the APM.
According to the chairmen, the alleged actions have undermined the party’s internal structures and raised questions about the direction of its presidential campaign ahead of the 2027 elections.
They further accused the presidential candidate of using the party to advance his personal political ambition rather than respecting its established organisational framework.
The development signals a growing internal dispute within the APM as political parties intensify preparations for the 2027 general elections.
Makinde had yet to publicly respond to the allegations contained in the statement at the time of filing this report.
