ZAMFARA – Five people lost their lives on Wednesday in a deadly explosion along the Gurusu–Gwashi road in Bukkuyum Local Government Area, Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal has confirmed.

In a statement shared on his official Facebook page, Governor Lawal described the tragedy as a “senseless loss of innocent lives,” explaining that the explosive device was planted by armed bandits who have been terrorizing the area.

The governor also expressed deep sorrow over the murder of Mu’azu Gwashi, the Vice Chairman of Bukkuyum Local Government Area, who was killed by his abductors after more than six months in captivity. Gwashi was kidnapped earlier this year, with his captors initially demanding a N30 million ransom. Reports indicate that N15 million was paid before his murder.

Governor Lawal offered his condolences to the families of all the victims and prayed for their strength during this difficult time.
