Yusuf Buhari, son of the late Muhammadu Buhari, has formally declared his intention to contest for a seat in the House of Representatives in the 2027 general elections.
In a letter dated April 3, 2026, titled “Expression of Interest to Contest for the Seat of House of Representatives, Sandamu/Daura/Mai’Adua Federal Constituency,” Yusuf stated his ambition to run under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
He noted that his decision followed wide consultations with key stakeholders, expressing readiness to contribute to “good and qualitative leadership” in the constituency. He also pledged to focus on infrastructural and human capital development if elected.
“I am extremely delighted to inform you of my intention to contest… Your support will help my ambition to succeed,” the letter read in part.
The development was confirmed by Bashir Ahmad, former Special Assistant on Digital Communications to the late president, who disclosed that the move came after extensive engagement with political stakeholders.
Yusuf’s declaration comes shortly after stakeholders of the APC in Sandamu Local Government Area endorsed him as their preferred candidate for the Daura/Sandamu/Mai’Adua Federal Constituency.
The endorsement was reached during a high-level meeting held at the local government secretariat, attended by elected officials and political appointees from across the constituency.
Speaking at the meeting, the council chairman, Usman Na-Lado, described the decision as a collective resolution by party stakeholders. He noted that Yusuf’s candidacy was based on his perceived capacity and growing acceptance within the party.
Na-Lado further revealed that the meeting reaffirmed support for Bola Tinubu and Dikko Radda as the APC’s preferred candidates for the presidency and governorship, respectively, in the 2027 elections.
