“You’re Not APC”: Bashir Ahmad Warns Wike Against Importing PDP Crisis into Ruling Party

0

A former presidential media aide, Bashir Ahmad, has cautioned the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, against actions he described as capable of destabilising the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Ahmad issued the warning while reacting to the ongoing war of words between Wike and the APC National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Basiru, over political control and influence in Rivers State.

In a statement shared on X (formerly Twitter), Ahmad backed Basiru’s position, stressing that Wike’s public support for President Bola Tinubu does not automatically confer APC membership on him.

“The National Secretary of the APC, Senator Ajibola Basiru, has reminded Nyesom Wike that his support for President Bola Tinubu does not automatically make him a member of the APC,” Ahmad wrote.

He added that backing the president is not exclusive to party members, noting that millions of Nigerians outside the APC also support Tinubu’s administration.

“Millions of non-APC Nigerians also support Mr President, and his own is no different,” he stated.

Ahmad further warned that any attempt by Wike to cause internal discord within the APC, particularly in Rivers State, would not be accepted by party stakeholders.

“His attempt to destabilise the party in Rivers State will not be tolerated, and he cannot bring the spirit of the PDP into the APC,” Ahmad concluded.

The comments come amid heightened political tensions following Wike’s increasing influence within the Tinubu administration despite his continued affiliation with the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
