A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has postponed the Ekiti State governorship primary election earlier scheduled for Saturday, November 8, 2025.
The development was contained in an official letter signed by the faction’s Acting National Chairman, Abdulrahman Mohammed, and National Secretary, Samuel Anyanwu, and addressed to the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Joash Amupitan.
According to the letter, the postponement became necessary due to what the party described as “logistics reasons” that constrained the conduct of the exercise.
The statement read:
“We wish to inform you that the PDP Ekiti State Congress and Governorship primary slated for November 8th, 2025, has been postponed due to logistics reasons constraining this exercise.
A new date will be formally communicated when decided.
Please accept the assurances of my esteemed regards. Kindly refer to our earlier letter to the commission on this subject matter.”
The postponement adds another layer to the ongoing internal crisis within the opposition party, which has been struggling with divisions between the main leadership and the Wike-backed faction.
While no new date has been announced, party insiders suggest consultations are ongoing to resolve logistical and political concerns before rescheduling the primary.
