ABUJA — The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, will on Thursday, September 18, 2025, kick-start a new wave of infrastructure projects in the Federal Capital City (FCC) as part of the Light Up Abuja Programme.
According to his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, the minister will commission two completed road projects and flag off 14 new projects between September 18 and October 16, 2025.
Among the projects slated for commissioning are the access roads in Sector Centre B, Dakibiyu District, and two newly completed roads in Mabushi District — ILS 11 (Esther Bali Street) and MAR 24 (Kez Udezue Street).
The Light Up Abuja Programme will also see the procurement of integrated (hybrid) solar lighting across major districts and expressways, including Maitama, Asokoro, Wuse, Central Business District (CBD), Airport Expressway, Katampe, Garki I & II, Mabushi, Gudu, Jabi, and Katampe Extension.
Other major projects to be flagged off include:
- Full-scope development of Arterial Road N1 from Wuye District to Ring Road II.
- Construction of the Northern Parkway from Ring Road II to Ring Road III.
- Access road to Mabushi Bus Terminal (Cadastral Zone B06).
- Phase II of FCC’s Arterial Road N20 (Solomon Lar Way) linking Obafemi Awolowo Way to the Airport Expressway.
- Access road to the Renewed Hope Cities and Estates site in Karsana West.
- Road bypass for Abuja Airport’s second runway with a four-span bridge.
- Access road to FCT Fire Service Station and erosion control works in Kaura District with three-span bridges.
- Transit Way 2 linking Central Area to Wuse District with two bridges.
- Mohammed Isa Road Extension in Asokoro District.
- Rehabilitation of 15km Old Keffi Road (Kado Village to Dei-Dei Junction).
- Engineering infrastructure for Guzape A09 Lots I and II (AIT Neighborhood, Asokoro District).
- Construction of Collector Road CN2 (Emmanuel I. Ogala Street) in Katampe District.
- Design and construction of official residences for Heads of Courts, including the President of the Court of Appeal, Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, Chief Judge of the FCT, and President of the Industrial Court.
The latest roll-out comes on the heels of recent projects flagged off by the minister, including the expansion of water supply to satellite towns (Bwari and Karu), the construction of a multi-purpose sports centre in Kafe District, a new Magistrate Court complex in Jabi, and the emergency reconstruction of Karu Road.
Wike said the projects underscore his administration’s commitment to improving infrastructure, easing mobility, and enhancing the quality of life in the Federal Capital Territory.
