Wike Fires Back: “My Opponents Will Keep Losing Sleep As Long As I Stand By the Law”

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has declared that he will continue to unsettle his political opponents across party lines, insisting that he has no regrets about his recent actions and public statements.

Speaking on Thursday during a media briefing shortly after the FCT Executive Committee meeting, Wike said his adversaries—whether in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the All Progressives Congress (APC), or the African Democratic Congress (ADC)—should brace up for more “sleepless nights” as long as he operates within the law.

The Minister was reacting to the public uproar that followed his confrontation with a Naval officer, Lieutenant AM Yerima, during an enforcement visit to a disputed plot of land in the Gaduwa area of Abuja.

The land, originally designated for Parks and Recreation, was allegedly being illegally converted by its owner, former Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Awwal Gambo (retd). Efforts by FCT officials to stop the alteration were reportedly frustrated when military personnel were deployed to block them from carrying out their duties.

Wike, who later visited the site with his team, was also barred from accessing the property, leading to a heated exchange with Lt. Yerima and the officers on ground. The encounter quickly went viral, sparking nationwide debate.

Addressing the controversy, Wike maintained his stance:
“I have no regret about my political opponents. I will continue to make them have sleepless nights, whether you are in PDP, APC, or ADC,” he said. “I have no regrets, as long as I’m standing by the law. If you like, bring in ethnicity or colouration, that’s your business.”

The Minister reiterated that no individual, irrespective of status or background, would be allowed to flout Abuja’s development regulations under his watch.
