The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has rejected claims that he has been expelled from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), insisting he remains a committed member of the opposition party.
His reaction comes after the faction led by the party’s National Chairman, Kabiru Turaki, reportedly issued expulsion certificates to 11 prominent figures, including Wike, former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, Umaru Bature, Kamarudeen Ajibade (SAN), Abdurahman Muhammad, and Senator Mao Ohuabunwa.
Turaki stated the action was part of efforts to “sanitize” the PDP ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking with journalists on Friday after inspecting the interchange bridge and access roads linking Gwarinpa to Jahi, Katampe, Gishiri, and Maitama, Wike dismissed the announcement as baseless.
“Those that are factionalised are bound to leave the party. I’m still in the PDP, and you can see that not everybody has left,” he said. “We still have good numbers, and we will continue to work together. I have told the party leadership to put their house in order because, at the end of the day, if they don’t, it’s the party that will lose.”
Wike added that he remains open to working with other members to ensure the PDP stays strong and relevant as Nigeria’s main opposition voice.
