ABUJA — Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has accused the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Umar Damagum, of betrayal, claiming their relationship has deteriorated to the point where Damagum now sees him as an enemy.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Thursday, Wike alleged that despite being the one who worked tirelessly to ensure Damagum retained his position as PDP Chairman, he has now become the target of hostility.
“I did everything. I had his lawyers, and that’s what sustained Damagum to be there,” Wike said.
“But who is Damagum’s enemy now? It is me. If there is one person Damagum wants to be killed, it is me,” the minister added.
Wike’s remarks come amid growing internal wrangling within the opposition party. Recently, former Jigawa State Governor Sule Lamido called on the Damagum-led National Working Committee (NWC) to expel Wike, along with former governors Samuel Ortom (Benue) and Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia), accusing them of undermining the PDP to the advantage of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Lamido urged the NWC to “wield the big stick” against members he described as disloyal and detrimental to the party’s future.
