Popular Nigerian streamer, Caterefe, has revealed that his decision to stop attending church was influenced by advice he received from skit maker Sidney Talker.
Speaking during a recent appearance on The Honest Bunch Podcast, Caterefe said he was once a committed churchgoer but began to question his faith community after what he described as contradictory guidance from someone he regarded as a devoted Christian.
According to him, Sidney Talker advised him to quit streaming at a time when his online career was beginning to gain traction. He also alleged that the skit maker suggested he part ways with his streaming partner, Kolu, with a payment of one million naira.
Caterefe said he interpreted the advice as harmful and inconsistent with the expectations he had of a committed Christian.
“I used to go to church, but I stopped because I noticed that a lot of churchgoers are very malicious,” he said. “Sidney Talker goes to church consistently, yet he advised me to quit streaming. I saw that as malicious advice.”
He further claimed that Sidney had warned him to disengage from Kolu, alleging that Kolu’s former associate, Portable, could spiritually harm him. Caterefe expressed surprise at the warning, questioning why someone active in church would express fear over alleged spiritual threats.
Instead of following the advice, Caterefe said he strengthened his relationship with Kolu, describing him as his best friend.
The streamer also opened up about his mental health struggles prior to transitioning fully into streaming. He disclosed that he battled depression for several months, attributing it to the declining popularity of skit-making at the time.
He noted that beginning his streaming career played a significant role in his recovery and renewed sense of purpose.
Neither Sidney Talker nor other parties mentioned have publicly responded to the claims at the time of filing this report.
