The management of the Yola Electricity Distribution Company (YEDC) has announced an impending power disruption across parts of northeastern Nigeria as contractors of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) commence maintenance and upgrade works on a major transmission line.
In a statement issued in Yola, Adamawa State, YEDC disclosed that the maintenance exercise will be carried out along the 276-kilometre Jos–Bauchi–Gombe 330kV transmission line.
According to the company, the planned outage is scheduled to run from April 9 to May 22, 2026.
YEDC further explained that during the period, customers in Adamawa, Taraba, and Yobe States should expect intermittent daytime power outages for at least four days each week, between 9:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.
While appealing for understanding, the distribution company urged residents to remain vigilant and protect transformers and other electrical infrastructure within their communities against vandalism.
The development comes at a particularly challenging time for residents of Yola, who are currently experiencing extreme heat conditions. The March to May period is typically the hottest season in the region, marked by intense sunlight and high temperatures.
The anticipated outages are expected to worsen living conditions, especially for residents who rely on electricity for cooling systems and access to chilled water, further heightening concerns over comfort and public well-being.
