Vinícius Júnior has stated that Brazil should not be considered favourites for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, citing the team’s recent performances as a key factor behind his assessment.
The Brazil national football team forward made the remarks while speaking to the media ahead of their international friendly against France national football team.
According to Vinícius, Brazil’s current form does not justify placing them among the top contenders for the tournament. However, he emphasized that the team’s legacy and quality still provide a strong foundation for a resurgence.
“I believe we are not the favorites if we look at the recent results,” he said.
Despite this, the Real Madrid star highlighted the importance of unity within the squad and pointed to the influence of Carlo Ancelotti, whose arrival has brought improved tactical clarity and reduced pressure on the players.
“But the weight of the national team jersey and the players we have here… all we need is to unite. After Ancelotti’s arrival, we have a better understanding of how to play. This relieves a lot of pressure from us,” Vinícius added.
The winger reaffirmed the team’s determination to restore Brazil’s dominance on the global stage, stressing that their focus is not on labels but on performance.
“We will do everything we can to bring Brazil back to the top. We don’t want to be the favorites; we want Brazil to be at the top,” he concluded.
