Uzodimma Welcomes PDP Bloc into APC, Says Imo’s “New Trajectory” Is Attracting Progressives

Governor Hope Uzodimma has received a group of defectors from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) into the All Progressives Congress (APC), describing the move as a sign of growing confidence in his administration’s development agenda.

The governor announced the defection in a statement shared on his official X handle, noting that the group was led by Evangelist Mike Ikokwu.

According to Uzodimma, the state’s current development drive is delivering tangible results, making it increasingly difficult for “progressive-minded” individuals to remain on the sidelines. He said the administration’s renewed momentum is rooted in a shared commitment to advancing Imo State’s growth and ensuring long-term prosperity.

“It was with great pleasure that I welcomed a distinguished group of Imolites, led by Evang. Mike Ikokwu, from the opposition PDP into our progressive family, the APC,” the governor stated, describing their decision as a collective move in pursuit of the state’s greater good.

Uzodimma emphasized that his government remains focused on sustainable development and inclusive governance. He also reaffirmed Imo State’s alignment with national political direction under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, citing what he termed purposeful leadership at the federal level.

The defection marks another shift in the state’s political landscape as parties continue to reposition ahead of future electoral contests.
