Supreme Court affirms Umahi as APC candidate for Ebonyi south

The Minister of Works, David Umahi, has expressed strong confidence in the re-election prospects of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027, attributing his optimism to ongoing infrastructure development across the country.

Umahi made the remarks during the commissioning of a completed 15-kilometre stretch of the Enugu–Onitsha Expressway, a major transport corridor in the South-East. He noted that the rehabilitation has significantly reduced travel time and addressed years of deterioration and delays experienced by motorists.

The minister described the project as a critical intervention by the Federal Government, explaining that the contract was restructured to ensure faster delivery and improved quality. He added that reinforced concrete pavement has been introduced on key sections to enhance durability, with parts of the road expected to last between 50 and 100 years with minimal maintenance.

According to him, while the original contractor is still handling some portions, a 72-kilometre stretch is being reconstructed using the new technology. The total cost of the project, he disclosed, has risen to over ₦350 billion, covering both existing and revised sections.

Umahi further revealed that additional segments of 18 kilometres and 39 kilometres are at various stages of completion, with strict directives issued to maintain uniform construction standards across the project.

He urged South-East governors to actively promote the Federal Government’s achievements and mobilise support for Tinubu’s second-term bid. He also called on residents of the region to back the administration to ensure the completion of ongoing infrastructure projects.

Highlighting broader development efforts, Umahi pointed to several ongoing federal road projects linking major cities such as Enugu, Abakaliki, Aba, Port Harcourt, and Onitsha, as well as access routes to the Second Niger Bridge.

While acknowledging concerns over unfinished sections, the minister assured Nigerians that work is progressing steadily and encouraged the public to verify developments on-site. He expressed confidence that the Enugu–Onitsha Expressway will be fully completed by 2026, describing it as a transformative project that will boost economic activities, improve safety, and enhance connectivity in the region.
