Trump-Led U.S. Visa Crackdown Puts Fresh Spotlight on Nigeria’s Terror Financing Gaps — Timi Frank

Former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Timi Frank, says the United States’ recent visa restrictions on Nigerians linked to terrorism stem from Nigeria’s failure to decisively tackle terror financing and its enablers.

Frank, in a statement on Friday, praised U.S. President Donald Trump and members of Congress for what he called a “bold and necessary move” aimed at curbing terrorism with ties to Nigeria.

The DAILY POST had reported that Washington introduced a new policy restricting visas for individuals involved in, or sympathetic to, terrorism financing in Nigeria.

Reacting to the development, Frank said the decision has increased pressure on Nigerian authorities to demonstrate transparency and sincerity in addressing insecurity. He described the policy as a “welcome development” and a strong signal of America’s commitment to dismantling global terror networks.

According to him, the sanctions amount to unprecedented international pressure, forcing Nigeria to revisit unresolved concerns around terror funding.

He faulted the Nigerian government for failing to release the list of terror financiers reportedly identified by the United Arab Emirates (UAE) during earlier investigations. Frank argued that political interference has stalled the exposure and prosecution of those involved.

He added that although Nigeria has the capacity to confront insecurity, corruption and political interests have undermined the fight against terrorism.

Frank further urged the U.S. to be cautious in sharing sensitive intelligence with Nigeria until the alleged list of terror sponsors is made public and credible steps toward accountability are taken.

“If President Trump had not stepped in, our leaders would still be looking the other way,” he said.

“The intervention has exposed what our own leaders have refused to confront and has renewed Nigerians’ hope that this nightmare can end.”
