Troost-Ekong: Pressure Is on South Africa, Not Super Eagles, in World Cup Qualifier

Super Eagles captain, William Troost-Ekong, has declared that South Africa will be under more pressure when both sides lock horns in a crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier on Tuesday night, DAILY POST reports.

The much-anticipated clash will take place at the Toyota Stadium in Bloemfontein, with both nations eyeing a vital victory.

The reverse fixture ended in a 1-1 draw, setting the stage for another fierce contest between two of Africa’s football giants.

While Nigeria aim to strengthen their chances of qualifying for the mundial, South Africa are desperate to edge closer to their first World Cup appearance since hosting the tournament in 2010.

“We are just focused on the opportunity ahead, and I also think the pressure is on South Africa. We have everything to gain,” Troost-Ekong told journalists at a pre-match press conference.

The Super Eagles will be counting on their experience and quality to get the job done, while Bafana Bafana will be banking on home support to push them over the line.
