Top PDP Members Dump Party for APC in Ekiti

The opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ekiti State suffered another setback on Monday as former House of Assembly candidate, Hon. Niyi Adeogun, alongside several key party stalwarts, defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Adeogun, who announced his defection at his Erinmope/Aaye Oja/Irare Ward in Moba Local Government Area, said the move was inspired by the “radical economic reforms” of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Biodun Oyebanji, which he described as transforming lives across the country.

He praised Governor Oyebanji’s inclusive and welfarist leadership, noting that the administration’s open-door policy has given room for meaningful participation by politicians from all backgrounds, as well as students, artisans, and civil servants.

Highlighting developmental strides in Moba LGA, Adeogun lauded the reconstruction of roads such as the Erinmope–Irare Road, which he said is boosting rural economy, agricultural productivity, and food security.

“I’m defecting today with the PDP Ward Chairman, Youth Leader, and other executives who were once the backbone of the opposition,” Adeogun said. “This decision isn’t for personal gain but to support the good work of Governor Oyebanji, who has complemented President Tinubu’s national agenda through his six pillars of development.”

He described Ekiti as a “massive construction site,” citing ongoing projects including the Ado-Ekiti Flyover, Ado–Ikere Road, Ado–Iworoko–Ifaki Road, Ikere–Ilawe Road, and the Ikole–Ara–Isinbode Road, among others.

Adeogun pledged to strengthen the APC’s grassroots structure and mobilize massive support for Oyebanji’s re-election in 2026.

Receiving the defectors, APC State Chairman Hon. Sola Elesin, represented by Ward Chairman Hon. Kolawole Olaoluwa, assured them of fair treatment, emphasizing that “discrimination has no place under Governor Oyebanji’s leadership.”

Elesin urged the new members to remain loyal to the party and its leader, adding: “You have every right to aspire to any position of your choice. As 2026 approaches, let’s work together to ensure the governor’s resounding re-election so we can all continue to enjoy the dividends of democracy.”
