Kenny Okolugbo, media aide to Senate President Godswill Akpabio, has praised President Bola Tinubu’s administration for what he described as a renewed and focused war against corruption.
Speaking in an interview on TVC News, Okolugbo commended the leadership of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) under Chairman Ola Olukoyede, noting that the agency has demonstrated an unprecedented level of effectiveness in tackling financial crimes — especially round-tripping and cryptocurrency manipulation affecting the naira.
“Ola Olukoyede, chairman of the EFCC, has done a lot in fighting those involved in round-tripping and the artificial devaluation of the naira, particularly through cryptocurrency,” he said, adding that the Commission’s efforts have helped stabilize the currency and strengthen the economy.
Okolugbo dismissed claims by opposition critics that the current administration is weak on corruption, insisting that Tinubu has achieved more than previous governments.
“We have never had an EFCC as focused as the one we have under President Tinubu. Ironically, the same Tinubu who is often accused of corruption is the one spearheading the most effective anti-corruption drive,” he stated.
He further noted that the EFCC’s recovery of 753 properties and its contribution to funding key initiatives like the students’ loan scheme and cash-back program highlight tangible progress.
According to him, the agency’s recent actions — including deporting foreigners involved in cybercrime and tracking illicit funds across ministries — send a strong signal that Nigeria is no longer a safe ground for corruption.
Okolugbo also commended the government’s tax reform efforts, describing them as a long-term solution for boosting the nation’s internally generated revenue.
“In both the fight against corruption and the economy, President Tinubu has performed impressively. When the tax reforms are fully implemented, they will become a major driver of development,” he said.
