Tinubu’s Aide Slams Peter Obi: “From APGA to PDP to Labour, His Politics Isn’t About the People”

Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Policy Communication, Daniel Bwala, has taken a swipe at former presidential candidate Peter Obi, accusing him of political inconsistency and pursuing personal ambition over public interest.

Speaking on a podcast with Nedu Wazobia, Bwala recalled Obi’s frequent party switches, from the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and later to the Labour Party, where he contested the 2023 presidential election.

“99.9 percent of the political actors in Nigeria today have changed parties three times minimum. My father would say, beat them first before you ask them questions,” Bwala said.

He noted that Obi once vowed never to leave APGA, insisting his family would “die” if he dumped the party — a promise he later broke by defecting to the PDP and eventually to Labour.

“When he moved to Labour, he called the PDP a structure of criminality. Peter Obi’s interest has nothing to do with the interest of the people,” the presidential aide asserted.

Bwala also questioned Obi’s philanthropy, alleging that his financial contributions to communities were meagre.

“Peter Obi has never given beyond N50 million, even that amount I can tell you the circumstances surrounding it. After the election, he went to the Northwest and Northcentral where people lacked water. The kind of borehole Peter Obi gave them money to produce was café-man-days borehole, where someone has to climb and bounce to pump water,” Bwala said.

He argued that Obi’s political journey and gestures to the masses were more about optics than genuine commitment to the people’s welfare.
