Tinubu to Service Chiefs: Crush New Security Threats, Nigerians Want Results Not Excuses

President Bola Tinubu has charged the newly appointed service chiefs to take decisive action against the security crises plaguing Nigeria since 2009, declaring that Nigerians expect results, not excuses.

Speaking on Thursday during the decoration of the service chiefs at the State House, Abuja, Tinubu urged the military leadership to approach their new responsibilities with patriotism, courage, and innovation.

The President emphasized that security remains the foundation for national development, warning that emerging armed groups in the North-Central, North-West, and parts of the South must be neutralized before they gain ground.

“Security threats are constantly evolving, constantly mutating. Of grave concern to our administration is the recent emergence of new armed groups in the North-Central, North-West, and parts of the South. We must not allow these new threats to fester. We must be decisive and proactive. Let us smash the new snakes right in the head,” Tinubu said.

He acknowledged the sacrifices of the Nigerian Armed Forces in reclaiming territories once held by terrorists, rescuing kidnapped citizens, and reducing the operational capacity of insurgent groups.

“Our military has remained steadfast in defending our nation’s territorial integrity, with many soldiers paying the ultimate price for their service. I sincerely appreciate your sacrifices,” he added.

The President further called for the use of technology and intelligence to stay ahead of those who threaten the nation’s peace, vowing to provide the necessary support to ensure success.

“Let’s stay ahead of those who seek to threaten our peace. Let us deploy technology where necessary. We cannot allow the crisis that began in 2009 to persist any longer,” Tinubu charged.

He concluded by congratulating the service chiefs on their appointment and confirmation by the Senate, reminding them that their new roles mark the beginning of a renewed national effort to secure Nigeria.

“Today’s ceremony is beyond the symbolism of decoration. It marks the beginning of our renewed effort to ensure the peace and security of all Nigerians,” he said.
