Borno South Senator, Ali Ndume, has urged President Bola Tinubu to take decisive action to resolve the ongoing crisis between Dangote Refinery and the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN).
Ndume suggested that the president should not hesitate to act “like a dictator” if necessary to bring the dispute to an end.
The call comes after PENGASSAN ordered its members to down tools on Saturday in protest against the sack of 800 workers by Dangote Refinery.
Speaking on Arise Television’s Prime Time on Monday, Ndume said:
“The best thing is for the president to sign an executive order calling them off. He has the right to dissolve them. In this case, I don’t mind if he acts like a dictator because some situations require very drastic measures.”
The senator accused the union of serving private interests rather than prioritizing the public good. Ndume, a long-time critic of what he described as “so-called unionism,” emphasized that he opposes any organization that benefits a few individuals at the expense of the country.
