President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has said his ongoing diplomatic engagements are beginning to deliver tangible benefits for Nigeria, particularly in the areas of security cooperation and international support.
The President made this known on Sunday while hosting members of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum in Lagos. The delegation was led by AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, who also serves as the Forum’s chairman.
Speaking on his recent visit to the United Kingdom, Tinubu disclosed that he secured commitments from the British government to provide equipment and support aimed at tackling banditry and terrorism. He added that a recent discussion with Emmanuel Macron also resulted in assurances of collaboration to strengthen Nigeria’s fight against insecurity.
Reaffirming his administration’s resolve, Tinubu described insecurity as a major obstacle to national development, progress, and prosperity. He emphasized the need for collective effort across all levels of government to achieve lasting peace and stability.
“We are entering the next phase of our struggle, which is the challenge of insecurity. I remain committed to strengthening international partnerships and mobilizing the support needed to overcome this threat,” the President said.
Tinubu further noted that several countries have expressed willingness to assist Nigeria through equipment provision, training, and financial support, including access to credit facilities where necessary.
On the economic front, the President cautioned that the ongoing crisis in the Middle East could trigger inflationary pressures in Nigeria. He warned that disruptions in global supply chains and rising costs at ports may affect transportation and reduce purchasing power.
According to him, the potential economic impact may also prompt increased demands from labour unions and vulnerable groups for government intervention.
In his remarks, Governor AbdulRazaq congratulated the President on what he described as a successful UK visit, highlighting the positive outcomes in terms of investment prospects and international cooperation. He also commended Tinubu’s implementation of the administration’s “Renewed Hope Agenda,” noting that it has strengthened Nigeria’s global standing.
