Tinubu Returns to Abuja After Two-Week Diplomatic Shuttle to Japan, Brazil

ABUJA — President Bola Tinubu has returned to Nigeria after a two-week diplomatic tour of Japan and Brazil, where he attended high-level meetings and sealed new bilateral agreements.

According to a statement by his Senior Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the president’s jet touched down at the presidential wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, at exactly 1:30 a.m. on Thursday. He was received by top government officials.

Tinubu had first traveled to Japan to participate in the ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9) before proceeding to Brazil to strengthen bilateral ties.

During his stay in Brazil, Nigeria and the South American nation signed five Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) spanning energy, agriculture, and security cooperation.

The presidential aircraft departed Brasília International Airport Air Force Base at 12:57 p.m. (local time), with the Secretary for Africa and the Middle East, Carlos Sérgio Sobral Duarte, and Brazil’s Ambassador to Nigeria, Carlos José Areias Moreno Garcete, among dignitaries who bid the Nigerian leader farewell.

Also present at the airport was Nigeria’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, alongside other senior officials.
