President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has acknowledged that Nigeria’s journey since independence has been difficult, saying many citizens have endured periods of hardship, disappointment and uncertainty.
Tinubu stated this on Thursday during a nationwide broadcast to mark Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary.
The President said Nigerians had experienced moments of great hope as well as periods of profound disappointment, noting that the country had survived several challenges, including civil war, military rule, economic crises, insecurity and political upheaval.
He expressed appreciation to members of the Armed Forces and other security agencies for their sacrifices in protecting the country and keeping citizens safe.
According to Tinubu, Nigeria’s resilience has been sustained by ordinary citizens who continue to work and pursue their dreams despite difficult circumstances.
He cited farmers who rise before dawn to cultivate their fields, traders who open their shops each day hoping to make sales, teachers who remain committed to their pupils, and young entrepreneurs who refuse to abandon their dreams because of prevailing challenges.
“Our journey has not always been easy. In truth, it has generally been too hard for too many. We have endured war, military rule, economic crises, insecurity and political upheaval.
“Yet, through it all, Nigeria, with the indomitable spirit of its people, has endured.
“Through every difficulty, generations of Nigerians have continued to believe in one thing: that this country of ours will be better,” Tinubu said.
