Abuja — President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will depart Abuja on Monday, January 26, for a state visit to the Republic of Türkiye, the Presidency has announced.
The disclosure was made by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, who said the visit is aimed at strengthening the long-standing diplomatic relations between Nigeria and Türkiye while expanding cooperation in key sectors.
According to the Presidency, discussions during the visit will focus on security, education, social development, innovation, aviation, finance, communication, trade, and investment. The trip follows Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s official visit to Nigeria in October 2021.
President Tinubu is expected to hold high-level political and diplomatic meetings with Turkish officials, alongside the signing of several memoranda of understanding (MoUs). These agreements will cover areas including scientific research, energy, technical cooperation, media and communications, military collaboration, and protocol affairs.
A Nigeria–Türkiye business forum will also be held during the visit, bringing together investors from both countries to explore opportunities for expanded bilateral trade and investment.
Members of the President’s delegation include the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar; Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Prince Lateef Fagbemi (SAN); Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (rtd); and Chairman of the House Committee on Defence, Hon. Jimi Benson.
Others on the entourage are the Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Hajiya Imaan Suleiman-Ibrahim; Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo; Minister of Culture and Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa; National Security Adviser, Malam Nuhu Ribadu; and Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency, Ambassador Mohammed Mohammed.
President Tinubu is expected to return to Nigeria at the conclusion of the visit.
