The Social Democratic Party (SDP) presidential candidate in the 2023 election, Prince Adewole Adebayo, has accused President Bola Tinubu of losing control of his administration amid the worsening insecurity across the country.
Adebayo, speaking during an interview on Politics Today on Channels Television, criticised the government for failing to curb violent crimes despite having what he described as “all the tools” necessary to tackle the crisis.
He alleged that elements within the government were aiding criminal networks, insisting that Nigeria’s security challenges cannot persist without official complicity.
“The government needs to come out and admit the truth — they are enabling this insecurity. They cannot pretend they don’t have what it takes to deal with it,” Adebayo stated.
“The first enemy of government is government. The first enemy of the people is government. You cannot commit a crime and last a week or a month without government cooperation.”
He raised concerns over how ransom payments circulate freely through the financial system without detection, urging President Tinubu to urgently restructure the nation’s security architecture.
Adebayo noted that every local government area already has at least one police division capable of rapid response, questioning why security agencies fail to act swiftly during attacks.
He further queried the government’s priorities, asking how armed groups continue to carry out mass abductions with little resistance.
The former presidential candidate called for immediate reforms, warning that insecurity will escalate unless the administration resets its operational strategy.
