PORT HARCOURT — Prominent environmental and human rights activist, Ann-Kio Briggs, has faulted President Bola Tinubu over the suspension of emergency rule in Rivers State, insisting that the president has not done the people any favour.
Speaking in Port Harcourt on Thursday, Briggs argued that Tinubu’s initial declaration of emergency rule in the state was unjust, stressing that Rivers people — particularly women across various walks of life — have always stood firmly behind Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
“Fubara has always had the total organic support of the majority of the people of Rivers State, of which I am one. From market women to career women, we have consistently supported the governor. And as you can see, the people of Rivers State are still in support of Siminalayi Fubara,” she said.
Briggs, however, noted that the key question remains whether that support will be allowed to translate into good governance, peace, security, and meaningful development.
She further accused President Tinubu of being the state’s problem rather than its solution, declaring: “Tinubu has not done any good to the people of Rivers State.”
