President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has ordered the distribution of rice across Nigeria to support citizens observing the Ramadan and Lenten fasting periods.
The initiative will be carried out through the Renewed Hope Ambassadors, a political support group aligned with the President.
In a statement released on Saturday, the Director-General of the group and Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodinma, said the directive is aimed at promoting national unity and supporting Nigerians during a spiritually significant season for both Muslims and Christians.
According to Uzodinma, the rice distribution reflects the President’s commitment to compassion and solidarity among Nigerians.
He noted that Ramadan and Lent are periods that emphasize sacrifice, charity, and care for others, adding that the initiative is intended to ensure families across the country feel supported during the fasting season.
“The Renewed Hope Ambassadors will coordinate the distribution through their nationwide grassroots network to ensure families across Nigeria benefit from the intervention during this holy season when both Muslims and Christians are fasting,” the statement said.
The initiative follows a similar intervention during the Christmas period, when rice was distributed to assist Nigerians during the festive season.
Officials say the latest distribution will reach both Christian and Muslim communities nationwide, underscoring the administration’s focus on inclusivity and national unity.
