Former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Timi Frank, has called on President Bola Tinubu to address the alleged United States property ownership scandal involving the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.
Frank, in a statement on Thursday, said Tinubu’s silence on the matter was “troubling,” warning that it could erode public trust in his administration’s anti-corruption stance.
Reports by People’s Gazette and Sahara Reporters had alleged that Wike purchased property in Florida and concealed the ownership under the names of his wife and children.
“With detailed reports from credible sources and glaring evidence ignored by anti-corruption agencies like the EFCC and ICPC, it sends a dangerous message that some officials are untouchable,” Frank said.
He cautioned that government inaction on the matter fuels impunity, weakens citizens’ trust in governance, and could trigger civil unrest similar to the Nepal uprising.
According to him, political calculations ahead of the 2027 elections appear to be behind the reluctance to probe Wike.
“However, allowing political ambition to shield corruption will irreparably harm Nigeria’s reputation internationally. The President should protect the dignity of Nigeria and the trust of its citizens by rejecting selective justice and political expediency,” he stressed.
It will be recalled that Wike’s media aide, Lere Olayinka, has since dismissed the allegations.
