Tiger Woods Arrested After Florida Crash, Faces DUI and Related Charges

0

Legendary golfer Tiger Woods has been arrested and charged with driving under the influence (DUI), property damage, and refusal to submit to a lawful test following a car crash in Florida.

The incident occurred shortly after 2 p.m. on Friday in Jupiter Island, a town where Woods resides. According to authorities from the Martin County Sheriff’s Office, Woods was involved in a collision while attempting to overtake a truck towing a trailer. His vehicle subsequently overturned and came to rest on its side after sliding a significant distance.

Sheriff John Budensiek stated that responding officers observed “signs of impairment” when they arrived at the scene. Woods reportedly underwent multiple roadside sobriety assessments and a breathalyser test, which returned a zero-alcohol reading. However, he declined to provide a urine sample, leading to an additional charge.

Authorities indicated that alcohol was not suspected to be a factor. Instead, investigators believe the golfer may have been impaired by medication, noting that he appeared “lethargic” at the scene.

Despite the severity of the crash, no injuries were reported. The driver of the other vehicle involved was unharmed, and Woods was alone in his car at the time of the incident. Officials also noted that he exited the overturned vehicle through the passenger side before emergency personnel arrived.

Preliminary findings suggest Woods was travelling at a high speed on a road with a posted limit of 30 mph when the crash occurred. The truck driver reportedly attempted to move aside but was unable to avoid the collision.

Woods was taken into custody and transported to the Martin County Jail, where he is expected to remain for a minimum of eight hours before becoming eligible for release on bond. Authorities confirmed that the charges are misdemeanors and not classified as felonies.

This marks the third known car crash involving Woods, with the most recent prior incident occurring in February 2021. Investigations into the latest crash are ongoing.
