Former Chief of Army Staff, Tukur Yusuf Buratai, has raised concerns that individuals funding terrorism remain active within society, calling for decisive legal action against them.
Buratai made the remarks on Friday during an appearance on Politics Today, a programme on Channels Television, monitored by DAILY POST.
He stressed that tackling terrorism should not rest solely on the military, urging all stakeholders to take responsibility in addressing the threat. According to him, merely identifying financiers is insufficient without concrete steps to prosecute them.
“It’s not just about mentioning names. Action should be taken,” Buratai stated, adding that many of those linked to terrorist groups such as Boko Haram are known within society.
The former army chief further expressed concern that some suspects previously arrested in connection with terrorism have yet to face prosecution, describing the situation as a critical gap in Nigeria’s fight against insurgency.
His comments highlight ongoing concerns over accountability and the need for stronger enforcement measures in addressing the financing of terrorism in the country.
