Tension Mars Early Hours of Voting at Gwarinmpa Polling Unit as Officials Delay Accreditation

0

There was heightened tension on Saturday at Polling Unit 141, located at LEA Primary School, Karamajiji, in Registration Area Gwarinmpa (Area Code 05), as suspected political thugs reportedly loitered around the premises while electoral officials struggled to commence voting.

Election materials arrived at approximately 9:03 a.m., but accreditation and voting did not begin until about 10:10 a.m., resulting in a delay of more than one hour. The late commencement drew concern from voters who had arrived early in anticipation of a prompt start.

Despite the deployment of security operatives to the area, several voters expressed unease over the presence of individuals believed to be political thugs and party agents positioned within and around the polling centre. Some residents, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the atmosphere created anxiety among early voters.

As of the time of filing this report, accreditation was ongoing under tight security, with voters expressing hope that the exercise would proceed peacefully despite the initial tension.
