Suspended Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan Office

ABUJA — Suspended Kogi Central Senator, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, on Tuesday made a dramatic return to the National Assembly as her office, sealed for six months, was finally reopened by the Sergeant-at-Arms alongside a combined team of security operatives.

The lawmaker, dressed in black, arrived at the complex around 2:30 p.m. in the company of her supporters, shortly after the official announcement of her office’s reopening. Her entry, however, was briefly resisted by some security operatives who attempted to block her access to the main building, sparking a mild confrontation.

Natasha’s office had been locked since March following her suspension by the Senate over alleged violations of its standing rules — a decision that drew sharp criticism from civil society groups and opposition figures. The suspension also came amid her high-profile allegation of sexual harassment against Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

Though she had previously approached the court in July in a failed bid to overturn the suspension, Tuesday’s development suggests the lawmaker may soon resume her official duties when the Senate reconvenes on October 7, 2025.

Her dramatic return marks a new twist in the months-long controversy surrounding her suspension and has once again put the spotlight on the National Assembly’s handling of internal discipline and dissent.
