Galatasaray have completed the sensational signing of Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen from Napoli in what has been described as the most significant transfer in Turkish football history.
The 26-year-old forward, who spent last season on loan at the Istanbul-based club, impressed with his prolific goal-scoring form, prompting Galatasaray to activate his €75 million release clause. After weeks of intense negotiations, Osimhen has now officially joined the Turkish Super Lig champions on a permanent deal.
Italian football agent George Gardi, who played a key role in the transfer, described Osimhen as “the best number 9 in the world,” commending Galatasaray’s ambition and determination in securing the deal.
“It’s one of the biggest transfers in Turkish football history. We got the best number 9 in the world, but the negotiations took a long time. Victor just wanted to come here,” Gardi told Turkish outlet Habersarikirmizi.
He added that Osimhen’s decision to make the move to Istanbul underlines the club’s growing reputation and ambition on the European stage.
Osimhen arrived in Istanbul on Wednesday evening to finalize the move and link up with his new teammates ahead of the club’s preseason campaign.
The Nigerian international began his European career at Lille before sealing a record move to Napoli, where he helped the Italian side clinch the Serie A title in the 2022/2023 season. His transfer to Galatasaray marks a new chapter in a career already filled with accolades.
The move is expected to boost Galatasaray’s domestic and continental aspirations as they prepare for the upcoming UEFA Champions League qualifiers.
