Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick has expressed pride in his players following their dramatic exit from the UEFA Champions League semi-final, after a thrilling 7–6 aggregate loss to Inter Milan.
The Catalan giants were on course for a historic quadruple in Flick’s debut season, but their European dream was cut short in one of the most gripping ties in recent memory. Despite the setback, the German tactician remains optimistic about the future.
“I’m proud of my team, I’m proud of your team — we gave everything, and sometimes it’s like that,” Flick told reporters post-match. “We have to accept it, and we start again next season. To win the Champions League is one of our goals… We will be back next season.”
Barcelona must now regroup quickly as they prepare for a high-stakes El Clásico clash against Real Madrid on Sunday. They currently lead their rivals by four points at the top of La Liga and remain on course for a domestic treble, having already secured the Spanish Super Cup and Copa del Rey.
“And of course, La Liga — it will be a tough match on Sunday, but we will give everything,” Flick added. “When the players look in the mirror after arriving home at three or four in the morning, I believe they can be very proud.”
Despite the European disappointment, Flick’s Barcelona side still have the chance to cap off a remarkable season with domestic dominance.
