Senator Oluremi Tinubu, First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, welcomed the Super Falcons of Nigeria with a reception at the State House Abuja on Monday, August 14th, 2023.

According to the First Lady, who met with some of the players, their technical team, and NFF officials, the girls demonstrated determination, resilience, team spirit, and the zest and strength that distinguish Nigeria.

She offered glowing respect to all the players who she claims have represented Nigeria in the global arena, stating that the world was taken aback by the players’ ability.

“Although the final result did not go our way, I am here to remind you that victory is determined by more than just the score on the field. The unshakable spirit and solidarity you displayed are clear indicators of success.”

“You have not only represented Nigeria on the international stage, but you have also become role models for our youth, particularly young girls who now see their dreams reflected in you.

“I salute you today and welcome you back home, and our best wishes go out to the other players who have returned to their base. You gave it your all, and we support you. We are quite proud of you.”

In his remarks, Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau, President of the Nigerian Football Federation, thanked the First Lady for the warm reception and promised her that the players will continue to provide good and qualitative representation to the country.

Onome Ebi, the team’s captain, stated that the team fought very hard and tirelessly to bring home the coveted FIFA Women’s World Cup Trophy. She pledged that the team would continue to work tirelessly to make the country proud on the football field.
