Al-Nassr captain Cristiano Ronaldo has brushed off questions about the 2025 Ballon d’Or, dismissing the prestigious award as meaningless and refusing to name his preferred winner.
Speaking to reporters after netting a hat-trick in Al-Nassr’s recent pre-season clash against Rio Ave, the Portuguese superstar — a five-time Ballon d’Or winner — was asked to reveal his choice for this year’s honour.
Instead, Ronaldo cut the conversation short, declaring: “Ballon d’Or? That’s fictional to me!” before walking away.
His comment marks a sharp departure from his stance earlier in June, when he suggested that the award should go to a player who had won the UEFA Champions League. At the time, he mentioned Lamine Yamal, Kylian Mbappé, Vitinha, and Ousmane Dembélé as potential contenders.
The 39-year-old’s dismissal of the accolade has sparked fresh debate among fans, with many questioning whether his remarks signal deeper criticism of the award’s credibility.
