Human rights activist and presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, has called on the Federal Government to discontinue the ongoing terrorism trial of the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday, Sowore described the case before the Federal High Court in Abuja as “a sham built on politics, prejudice, and suppression,” insisting that it began with Kanu’s “illegal and extraordinary rendition” from Kenya.
Sowore said the trial presents an opportunity for the government to correct a long-standing injustice, urging the Attorney-General of the Federation to file a nolle prosequi — a formal notice to discontinue the case — and admit that “this trial should never have been initiated.”
He further appealed to Justice James Omotosho to “make history by standing on the side of truth, fairness, and humanity” by dismissing the case outright.
According to the activist, such a decision would help restore public confidence in Nigeria’s judicial system and save the Tinubu administration from further embarrassment.
Meanwhile, DAILY POST reports that Sowore has announced plans to lead a nationwide protest on October 20 to demand Kanu’s release.
