Sowore Claims Tinubu Is Unwell, Raises Alarm Over Leaders’ Health

0

Former presidential candidate and activist, Omoyele Sowore, has alleged that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is unwell and managing his health, following the president’s sudden departure from Nigeria for Europe.

Sowore also made a separate claim concerning Senate President Godswill Akpabio, alleging that the lawmaker is “practically dying,” and questioned the state of leadership in the country.

President Tinubu, who had been in Lagos State for the Christmas and New Year holidays, left Nigeria on Sunday. In a statement, the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, said Tinubu travelled to Europe and is also scheduled to proceed to Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, for an official engagement.

According to Onanuga, the president will participate in the 2026 Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week Summit at the invitation of the UAE President, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

Reacting to the development, Sowore, in a post on his verified X (formerly Twitter) handle, claimed that Tinubu’s trip was health-related. He wrote:
“Nigeria’s Bola Ahmed Tinubu is unwell just managing himself, reason he’s abruptly flown to ‘Europe’ today. @Senator_Akpabio is practically dying. Why is Nigeria governed by sick people?

“And whereas nothing is wrong with illnesses, it is callous to use a country as health insurance for sick leaders.”

As of the time of filing this report, the Presidency has not responded directly to Sowore’s claims, beyond the official explanation that the trip includes scheduled international engagements.
