Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo, has firmly debunked widespread rumours alleging the death of former governor, Chief Willie Obiano.
In a statement released on Friday by his Press Secretary, Christian Aburime, Soludo described the viral social media reports claiming Obiano died in a London hospital as “malicious and utterly false.”
The governor said he personally spoke with Obiano and could confirm that the former leader was alive, well, and in good health.
“I view with grave concern the reckless circulation of such malicious rumours. It is both wicked and completely irresponsible,” Soludo said.
He urged media practitioners, particularly online platforms, to uphold basic journalistic standards by verifying information through official channels before publication.
“The spread of unverified death rumours erodes public trust. I strongly caution against such unethical acts,” he added.
Soludo called on the public to disregard the false report, assuring that Obiano remained in excellent health. He also wished the former governor continued strength, peace, and long life.
Supporting Soludo’s statement, former Commissioner for Information under Obiano, C-Don Adinuba, also dismissed the rumour. He clarified that Obiano currently resides in Houston, United States—not London—and is “strong, hale, hearty and bouncing.”
“Please, the report is fake; Obiano is still alive,” Adinuba said.
Obiano served as governor of Anambra State from 2014 to 2022, handing over to Soludo in March 2022.
