Vice President Kashim Shettima has restated the deep-rooted ties between Nigeria and the Niger Republic, emphasizing that the unity binding both nations remains stronger than any disagreements that may arise.
He delivered the message during a courtesy visit to the Emir of Gumel as part of activities marking the official commissioning of the newly completed Juma’at Friday Mosque in Gumel.
Speaking at the event, the Vice President assured Nigeriens that Nigeria remains committed to the shared history and relationship between the neighbouring countries.
“Nigeria and the Niger Republic are one people. We are connected by history, by blood, and by generations of family ties,” he said. “No one should be misled into thinking Nigeria does not care. You are part of us, and we are part of you.”
Shettima highlighted that misunderstandings are normal in any relationship but stressed the importance of patience and dialogue in resolving tensions. He also reaffirmed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s goodwill and affection towards the people of Niger, insisting that the long-standing bond between the two nations remains unbroken.
“I want to assure our brothers and sisters in Niger that President Tinubu values you, and our country values you. Our unity is far stronger than anything that seeks to divide us,” he added.
The Vice President offered prayers for continued peace, harmony, and stability across both nations.
In his remarks, Governor Umar Namadi of Jigawa State applauded Shettima’s visit and pledged the state’s full support for the Federal Government’s efforts toward fostering peace and national cohesion.
