Production has resumed at Nigeria’s flagship deep-water oilfield after Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company Limited (SNEPCo) successfully completed turnaround maintenance on the Bonga Floating Production, Storage and Offloading vessel (FPSO) ahead of schedule.
In a statement, the company said the maintenance project was completed on March 6, 2026—11 days earlier than planned and without any safety incident—demonstrating SNEPCo’s commitment to operational excellence and asset integrity.
Managing Director Ronald Adams described the achievement as a reflection of the dedication and professionalism of the company’s workforce in Nigeria, as well as the support of its partners.
According to him, the successful completion of the exercise strengthens the long-term reliability of the Bonga FPSO and positions the company for the next phase of development at the Bonga field.
“The achievement not only secures the long-term integrity of the Bonga FPSO, but also positions us strongly for the successful delivery of the Bonga North project, which will leverage the improved reliability of the FPSO,” Adams said.
The turnaround maintenance, which began on February 1, 2026, involved extensive collaboration with local and international service providers. Out of the 55 companies that participated in the project, 43 were wholly Nigerian firms. In addition, eight of the 12 international service providers maintain operational bases in Nigeria, supporting knowledge transfer and boosting local investment.
More than 1,000 personnel worked offshore during the maintenance exercise, with over 95 percent of them being Nigerians engaged in engineering, operations, inspection, maintenance and construction activities. Thousands of other workers also supported the project from onshore locations.
SNEPCo also acknowledged the support of key industry stakeholders, including NNPC Upstream Investment Management Services (NUIMS), Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), and Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB), as well as other project partners, for contributing to the successful completion of the maintenance exercise.
