Abuja, Nigeria — Former Kaduna Central senator, Shehu Sani, has raised concerns over reports that only ₦36 million was released to Nigeria’s health sector in the 2025 fiscal year, describing the development as troubling and indicative of misplaced priorities.
In a statement shared on Friday via his verified X (formerly Twitter) account, Sani said that if the figure is accurate, it would reflect a lack of seriousness in addressing the country’s pressing healthcare challenges.
The former federal lawmaker stressed that adequate funding remains critical to strengthening public health infrastructure, improving service delivery, and tackling ongoing medical concerns across the nation.
“If it’s confirmed that only ₦36 million was released for the health sector in 2025, then it’s unfortunate and a demonstration of lack of seriousness in the health sector,” Sani wrote.
He further called on the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, to provide a comprehensive explanation regarding the reported allocation.
As of the time of filing this report, there has been no official clarification from the Ministry of Finance concerning the figure cited by the former lawmaker.
