Popular Nigerian comedian and staunch supporter of President Bola Tinubu, Seyi Law, has clapped back at Shehu Abubakar, son of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, over his recent comment describing the Nigerian president as a drug baron.
Shehu had made the remark while reacting to a statement credited to U.S. President Donald Trump, who reportedly branded Nigeria a “disgraced country” while threatening military intervention over alleged persecution of Christians. The comment sparked outrage on social media, leading to the viral hashtag #DisgracedCountry, which split Nigerians between anger and introspection.
Weighing in on the matter, Shehu Abubakar wrote on X (formerly Twitter):
“Why are some upset that Donald Trump called us disgraceful? When they announced a drug baron as our President, what do you call that? Prideful? I know it hurts our pride as a nation but we have to first look inwards and hold ourselves accountable before we accuse outsiders.”
Seyi Law, in a swift response, faulted Shehu’s statement and questioned his moral standing to criticize the president. The comedian reminded him of the corruption allegations that once trailed his father, Atiku Abubakar, during the administration of former President Olusegun Obasanjo.
In his post, Seyi Law wrote:
“This is coming from someone whose father was called a thief by his principal and indicted as a money launderer in the US. Someone whose father deleted his handler’s tweet about the extra-judicial killing of Deborah. Na really wa.”
Seyi Law’s comment has since stirred reactions on social media, with supporters and critics of both political figures trading words under the thread.
The exchange adds a new twist to the ongoing online debate about Nigeria’s international image, governance, and public perception of its leaders.
