The Senate will on October 7, 2025, determine whether suspended lawmaker, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, can officially resume her legislative duties.
Kenny Okolugbo, Consultant on Communication and Strategy to the Office of the Senate President, disclosed this in an interview on Channels Television on Wednesday.
DAILY POST recalls that Akpoti-Uduaghan, who represents Kogi Central, was suspended on March 6, 2025, for six months over alleged violation of Senate rules. Her suspension stemmed from a heated dispute with Senate President Godswill Akpabio, whom she accused of sexual harassment—a claim Akpabio has firmly denied.
On Tuesday, her office at the National Assembly was unsealed following the completion of her suspension. However, uncertainty lingers over her full resumption of legislative responsibilities as related court cases remain unresolved.
When asked if the senator had merely regained access to her office without resuming official duties, Okolugbo explained:
“Every other decision will be taken by the senators when they resume on the 7th of October.”
He commended the Senate leadership for unsealing her office, stressing that it was within her rights to access it.
“She has gained access into her office, she has every right to go to her office since her six months suspension has elapsed. Even though the case is still at the Court of Appeal, the leadership of the Senate took a wise decision,” Okolugbo added.
The Senate is currently on recess and is expected to reconvene for plenary on October 7, 2025.
